BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) – The North Dakotans could vote on the election measure as early as November 2022 to legalize gambling.

As online poker, sports betting and other games became more prominent, legislators supported a bill

Supporters said they hope that gambling will be safer if the state finds a way to regulate it.

“The general belief that sports betting corrupts the sport is wrong. If the tens of thousands of North Dakotans who participate illegally have not tried to corrupt a basketball or soccer game now, the chances of it happening after it is legalized will, in my opinion, be even smaller, ”said Rep. Michael Howe, R-West Fargo.

The bill does not include college sports gambling after the university system raised concerns.

Other lawmakers said they fear this would lead to gambling addiction across the state.
